Richard has returned many times to Grizedale Forest. Being Here may be seen as a meeting place of his ideas and work. It is illuminated by his sculptures at Grizedale and in other landscapes he has since befriended.
Driven by the reality of place - Harris’s sculptures connect people to their ground so enabling their response to it. He is concerned with underlying structures. How we inhabit and respond to the connections between, wood, stone, air, earth, water, concrete and steel - but at the core of his work are people and their surroundings.
A feeling of the energy and form is sought that being in nature can reveal. Although his sculptures are not figurative they can trigger a recognition. The resulting sculptures are then often immersive and directional. Creating lyrical places for people to move through, over, or to pause to experience that place in their own way.
